Acupuncture
Using hair-thin needles that enter the skin, away from vital organs, it is a safe and tolerable treatment for many conditions. You should experience a dull, achy sensation, known as the Qi sensation, which signifies that the needles are taking effect in the body. Acupuncture is used to harmonize your body's qi preventing or correcting many conditions. While you might feel a slight poke during the insertion of the needle, most people report not noticing the needles once they are in. About 5 acupuncture needles can fit within a syringe, and therefore, the pain people fear from shots is not a factor in acupuncture.

Chinese Herbs
While the needles work on the energy in your body, Chinese herbs give your body what it needs in order to harmonize more efficiently. You can think of it like this:
If you have a mixing bowl (your body) and you start to stir it with a spoon (the needle) when it is still empty, little will change. If you start adding the ingredients you need (Chinese herbs) and then mix, you have a solid foundation for building, moving, and keeping energy in the body. Not every treatment requires herbs, and we will never force anyone to invest in that treatment. We will give our recommendations, when appropriate, and the decision will be up to you.

Cupping
Various sized glass cups are used on an area of pain, usually the back. After a vacuum (or suction) is created in the cup, we place it on, near, or around the painful area. People often describe a suction sensation and massage-like quality to this modality. The skin can be left with pink/red areas and even purple marks in the shape of the cup. These are normal and actually desired results. Cupping is not appropriate for every patient, and we will always discuss any treatment before starting. We ask you to let us know if you have any special events upcoming where you would not want any discoloration in visible areas like the back and neck.

Gua Sha
A Chinese soup spoon or specialized Gua Sha tool (both displayed to the left) may be used for this. Most often in cases of high fever, the Gua Sha tool will be rubbed over the neck and upper back until the skin is pink/red. This is also not appropriate for every patient, and we will always discuss treatments before starting. Please let us know if you have any special events where you would not want discoloration in visible areas like the back and neck.

Tui Na
A style of Chinese massage that is often compaired to deep tissue body work. Tui Na uses techniques such as grasping, pulling, kneading, pressing, rolling, and many more to release the adhesions that are causing you pain or limited range of motion. After the adhesion is broken, the body can repair and restore itself.
